Isaac Julien: True North
True North, Schindler House, 2005
15 July - 23 October 2005
Isaac Julien's first solo exhibition in Los Angeles and the United States debut of the artist's body of photographs entitled True North. Julien is an award-winning filmmaker and photographer whose work has been exhibited internationally. The photographs and film on display were loosely based on the story of Matthew Henson, an African American who traveled with famed explorer Robert Peary and in 1909 was one of the first people to reach the North Pole. The exhibition was guest curated by Lauri Firstenberg.
