Once Again... (Statues Never Die) opens at the Whitney Biennial
Once Again... (Statues Never Die) features as part of the Whitney Biennial, the longest-running survey of American art since its inception in 1932.
Curators Chrissie Isles and Meg Onli have chosen to present Isaac Julien's 5-screen black-and-white installation, exploring the legacies of the philosopher, critic and art historian Alain Locke and African art collector Albert Barnes, whose collection inspired both Locke and the Harlem Renaissance artists. In Once Again... (Statues Never Die) Julien reimagines Locke’s relationship and correspondence with Barnes.
"Isaac Julien's masterful video and sculpture installation is a highlight of the show." - Martha Schwendener
The Whitney Biennal opens to the public March 20, closing August 11
