Isaac Julien in the New York Times
On April 28th, the New York Times published a feature profile on Isaac Julien under the title Looking for Freedom, Isaac Julien Comes Home.
The author Elizabeth Fullerton writes about Julien's "major exhibition at Tate Britain [...] the culmination of a trajectory that began on the margins" emphasising how he created "boundary-stretching works addressing racism, homophobia, migration and colonialism, from experimental documentaries to lavish multiscreen installations; in all of them an activist spirit is counterbalanced with opulent imagery and sound".
A version of the article appeared in print on April 30, 2023, of the New York edition with the headline: Activist With an Eye for Beauty.
