In the April issue of frieze, Deborah Willis interviews Isaac Julien ahead of his major solo show at Tate Britain spanning a 40-year career.
"My investigation into the ways in which there were so many absences and erasures in archives led me to view them as a springboard for reinvention", Julien mentions in an interview that covers his work from his celebrated film Looking for Langston (1989) to the latest five-screen installation Once Again... (Statues Never Die) from 2022.
