Isaac Julien in Adelaide and Perth
The SAMSTAG Museum of Art and John Curtin Gallery will co-present four moving image installations as part of the Adelaide and Perth festivals, respectively.
Ten Thousand Waves (2010), the seminal 9-screen work exploring the movement of people across countries and continents, shot on location throughout mainland China, marks its return to Australia for the first time since its World Premiere at the 17th Biennale of Sydney in 2010.
This time in Adelaide, at the SAMSTAG Museum of Art, the work is presented alongside Lina Bo Bardi - A Marvellous Entanglement (2019), most recently exhibited at Roslyn Oxley Gallery, Sydney.
In Perth, John Curtin Gallery hosts the Australian Premiere of Lessons of the Hour (2019), featuring as a 10-screen installation in conjunction with a 3-screen iteration of Ten Thousand Waves as part of the Perth Festival.
