Isaac Julien Among 12 Artists On The Financial Crisis
In a recent New York Times article, Isaac Julien was featured as one of the twelve contemporary artists that were asked to contribute works in response to the current global emergency and its financial impact on the local communities.
Isaac Julien revisited and reworked images from his most recent film project, Lina Bo Bardi - A Marvellous Entanglement (2019), into a new series of collage works.
The space pictured in the featured image (Silver Atlantic Coaty, 2020) is an experimental social-housing complex and restaurant designed by Bo Bardi between 1986 and 1990 in an attempt to revitalize and unify the local cultural community. Called the Coaty, it’s located in the city of Salvador, where half of the local population are descendants of African slaves, brought to Brazil to work on plantations and in gold and diamond mines.
