Encore II (Radioactive) in Scotland
Curated by Eoin Dara and Kim McAleese, the group exhibition Seized by the Left Hand brings together artworks which, in the words of the curators, "propose alternative spaces and worlds that hint at ways in which we all might better live, love and care for one another".
Among the works in the Dundee Contemporary Arts' exhibition is Isaac Julien's single-screen film installation Encore II (Radioactive), which, like the show itself, is inspired by writings of a female science fiction writer. While the group show draws from American writer Ursula K. Le Guin's 1969 novel The Left Hand of Darkness, Isaac Julien's piece is a short film study inspired by a character created by African American author Octavia Butler.
